General information
Over its 28 years of existence, the Saint Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology, in collaboration with the Gerontological Society of the Russian Academy of Sciences, has established a new scientific direction in medicine and secured a leading position in Russia in the field of gerontology. The Institute's further development is focused on continuing research related to slowing down aging processes and increasing human life expectancy. The Institute's scientific developments have enabled the creation and implementation of new peptide drugs into medical practice. As a result of this work, 6 drugs (Thymalin, Thymogen - immunomodulators and regeneration stimulants; Cortexin - brain function restoration; Retinalamin - retinal function restoration; Samprost - prostate function restoration; Epithalamin - endocrine system and melatonin secretion regulator) were approved by the Ministry of Health of the USSR and the Russian Federation for medical use (received by over 15 million people). All drugs are peptide-based and represent innovative products covered by 208 patents, including 97 foreign ones (USA, Europe, Eurasia, Japan, Australia, etc.).
