General information

The I.N. Uraltsev Spin Optics Laboratory was established in 2011 under a mega-grant from the Government of the Russian Federation. Currently, the laboratory employs more than 40 staff members, the majority of whom are young scientists, including 8 young Candidates of Sciences (SPbU PhDs) appointed to the laboratory staff. The laboratory also hosts 10 postgraduate students as well as master's and bachelor's students.

Research Areas

The laboratory's scientific scope includes 10 research areas

Scientific Cooperation

Scientific research is carried out as part of a major international Russian-German project "International Collaborative Research Centre TRR160", involving the Spin Optics Laboratory, several laboratories of the Ioffe Institute, and Professor Manfred Bayer's laboratory at the Technical University of Dortmund. In addition, 10 other scientific projects are being implemented.

The laboratory actively collaborates with the "Nanophotonics" Resource Center:
  • Growth of semiconductor heterostructures using MBE technology
  • Research on photon echo and four-wave mixing
  • Optical spectroscopy in a magnetic field
  • Time-resolved secondary emission spectroscopy

The laboratory works in close cooperation with leading international research centers, including:
