General information

The Institute conducts the full cycle of work in high latitudes: from field research and data processing to mapping and forecasting. AARI scientific divisions engage in fundamental and applied research of climate, processes in the atmosphere, near space, marine environment, and ice cover. We organize comprehensive environmental monitoring based on observatories and annual expeditions to high latitudes. In the ice tank, we conduct experiments to determine ice loads on structures and vessels.

AARI continuously creates and updates systems and methods for calculating and forecasting natural processes. Special attention is paid to research related to the study of the physical and mechanical properties of ice and the interaction of marine object hulls with ice. For this purpose, an ice tank operates at the institute.

For almost 40 years, the "Sever" automated ice information system has been operating at AARI. The service is based on satellite monitoring of hydrometeorological information and helps to safely and efficiently conduct marine operations in the Arctic.
