The Chemical Laboratory of the Saint Petersburg Technopark offers microreactor synthesis of organic compounds — a modern method that allows for precise control of chemical reaction parameters, increased yield of the target product, and minimized reagent consumption.

The technology is based on the continuous supply of components into a small-volume reaction cell with precise regulation of temperature, pressure, and contact time. This is particularly effective for thermosensitive, multicomponent, and fast-acting reactions.

Unlike classic batch synthesis, where key factors are concentration, stirring, process temperature, and reaction time, in continuous flow synthesis, these are primarily residence time, pressure, process temperature, and stirring.
Key advantages of microreactor synthesis:

  • efficient mass transfer due to mixing of reaction components in a laminar flow via diffusion (whereas in batch synthesis, mixing occurs in a turbulent mode),
  • efficient heat transfer due to a higher surface area to volume ratio of the microreactor (this value is lower for a classic reactor),
  • ability to safely conduct fast and highly exothermic reactions, thanks to rapid heat removal from the reaction mass,
  • technical capability to implement stages requiring different temperature regimes, thanks to rapid controlled heating,
  • technical capability to work under pressure, which means: implementation of reactions in liquid-gas systems and processes requiring supercritical conditions.

The choice of a microreactor system depends on the type of task. The Saint Petersburg Technopark features more than 3 microreactor systems with various channel geometries.
